This is Lebanese diva Sabah along with Nagwa Fouad's dancers in a scene from the 1977 film 'The Magic Lamp' (also known as 'Mirrors') which starred Nagwa Fouad and Younes Shelaby.Trivia: From what I can see, Sabah and the dancers are never in the same shot at the same time. Maybe it was filmed at different times?
This clip of Nagwa Fouad is such a 'golden oldie' that I'd forgotten I even had it! The clip itself is not great quality but that's all we had back in the day and as with many of my older clips, its been converted from a VHS tape to mpg format. I've cut out the worst of the colour changes and the picture rolling. Dancers will recognise the set as its the same one that was used for many dancers. The clip starts with Nagwa's backing dancers performing a fellaheen piece with waterjugs and then Nagwa Fouad performs in a green and purple outfit.

There was confusion and panic in the darkness. When the lights were turned back on clubgoers were shocked to see Imtithal Fawzi lying on stage dying from stab wounds. Later investigation showed that she had been killed by a gang for failing to meet their demands for protection money. Also starring were Adel Adham, Samir Sabri, Katkouta, Naima el Soghaiar and Nour al Sherif.

From Wael Elebrashy's program. A very brief translation of the interview that aired during Ramadan 2010. Interviewer is Magdy El Galad. Translation by Lebdancer and KF.INTERVIEWER: Is oriental dance meant to excite or is it an art? NAGWA: It's an art. This dance has changed 180 degrees and it's the new dancers who have caused this change. Especially the costumes and the styles. I see things (onstage) that I would be too ashamed and embarassed to do! The costumes today are just horrible. Today th

There I was minding my own business watching an Egyptian movie dvd and suddenly there was a glitch, the movie stopped and was replaced by Nagwa Fouad and Sabah with the guest of honour Omar Sharif. I think judging from the hair it’s the early 1990s. Then, just as suddenly, the dvd changed to the Miss Africa pagent circa I don’t know when but puffy sleeves were all the rage and then just as suddenly, the movie came back onscreen and continued without a break. Ah the joys of buying dvds, you never know what you’ll get.
Nagwa Fouad dances in a scene from the 1968 Egyptian comedy 'Al Millionaire al Mouzayyaf' (The Fake Millionaire المليونير المزيف) which starred Fuad al Mohandes, Shweiker (who's banging on the door) and Abbas Fares. Egyptian actor Hassan Mostafa is inside the robot suit. Nagwa Fouad starts dancing at about .28 seconds in.
This is a second scene from the 1970 Egyptian comedy ‘Ferket al Marah’ (فرقة المرح literally ‘Fun Band’). The dancer is Nagwa Fouad and the singer is Mohamed Roushdi. The film also starred Shams al Baroudi and Tawfik al Deqn and of course, “the band” comprising Samir Ghanem, George Sedhom and El Dief Ahmed. Sidhom, Ghanem and Ahmed collectively formed ‘Thulathi adwa' al Masrah’ (the Theatre Lights Trio) appearing together in many films, plays and Ramadan tv and radio series until El Deif Ahmed’s early death in 1970. Sidhom and Ghanem continued as a duo until 1982 when Sidhom retired due to ill health. Samir Ghanem has subsequently gone on to have a successful film career.
This is Nagwa Fouad performing in the 1970 Egyptian movie “Lasna Mala'eka“ (We are not Angels لسنا ملائكه). The singer with her is Syrian born Fahad Balan. The movie starred Samir Ghanem, George Sidhom and Ahmed al Deif along with Abbas Fares and Samir Sabri.
Nagwa Fouad in a scene from the 1971 Egyptian film ‘Love Returns Tomorrow’ (Ghadan Yaoud Al Hob غداً يعود الحب) which starred Nour al Sharif and Nelly (the actress, not the dancer). The film told the story of a couple who had a fling which resulted in a pregnancy. She finally has an abortion in the back streets of the City of the Dead in Cairo.
This is Egyptian dancer (and later in her career, actress) Nagwa Fouad, performing in a scene from the 1969 film ‘Seraa al Mohtarefin’ (Battle of the Professionals or Professional Conflict صراع المحترفين). The film starred Rushdi Abaza and Naglaa Fathi who are the couple sitting on the sofa. Also starring were Tawfik al Deqn and Kawthar Shafik.
Nagwa Fouad dances in a scene from the 1958 Egyptian film ‘Touha’ (توحة) which starred Hind Rostom in the title role. Hind Rostom is the blonde lady who enters the bar wearing a melaya. Also starring were Zahrat al Ola, Ahmed Saeed and Mohsen Sarhan. The male dancer at the beginning of the clip is pretty good too isn't he?
This is Nagwa Fouad dancing in a scene from the 1959 Egyptian film “The Prison of Virgins” (سجن العذارى Segn al Athara ). The film had a stellar cast: Zouzou Nabil, Shukry Sarhan, Samira Ahmed, Tawfik al Deqn, Thuraya Fakry, Emad Hamdi and Shekuku. There’s other actors too but the list is getting too long :-) In this scene Shekuku, who’s at the mens function, balances a shisha on his head.Leave the first comment:

There are some performances that are considered iconic and this is one of them. This is Egyptian bellydancer Nagwa Fouad wearing a gold bedlah and carrying a fan. The music is 'Set al Hosn' which was composed especially for her by Mohamed Sultan.Trivia: Until 1981 Mohamed Sultan, the composer of this music was married to Fayza Ahmed who you may remember from 'Tamra Henna' with Naima Akef.

His 1977 marriage to Lebanese singer Sabah lasted less than a week as he was still married to Samia Gamal at the time.
